ANCIENT BOOKS

The period between the 1st century B.C. to the end of 2nd century A.D. in Southern India is known as Sangam Period. It has been named after the Sangam academies during that period.

According to the Tamil legends, there were three Sangams (Academy of Tamil poets) held in the ancient South India popularly called Muchchangam. These Sangams flourished under the royal patronage of the Pandya kings of Madurai.

ARTS BOOKS

People flock to museums like never before, so they must have their motives. But when it comes to art, people get strangely afraid to ask too directly what it all might be for, because everyone except you might know the answer already. It’s perhaps too obvious; it’s perhaps too complicated; the result is an awkward silence.

According to the Tamil legends, there were three Sangams (Academy of Tamil poets) held in the ancient South India popularly called Muchchangam. These Sangams flourished under the royal patronage of the Pandya kings of Madurai.

BIOGRAPHY BOOKS

A biography is simply an detailed description about the life of a person. It entails basic facts, such as childhood, education, career, relationships, family, and death. Biography is a literary genre that portrays the experiences of all these events occurring in the life of a person, mostly in a chronological order. Unlike a resume or profile, a biography provides a life story of a subject, highlighting different aspects of his of her life. A person who writes biographies, is called as a “biographer.”

An autobiography tells the story of a person’s own life. While that person writes his own account, he or she may take guidance from a ghostwriter or collaborator.

CHILDREN'S BOOKS

We mentioned mystery, romance, and personal essay as three examples of literary genres above. Now, let's take a look at some of the most popular genres in children's literature. This scope of this lesson could not possibly list each and every genre in children's literature, but these are the most prevalent.

Books that take place in the present day yet are not based on actual events are referred to as contemporary fiction. These types of books are very popular selections in children's literature because young readers can usually connect with the characters who may be very similar to them or someone they know. Readers also identify with the events of the story because they may be representative of things that are happening in their own lives.

CHRISTIAN BOOKS

Christians are monotheistic, i.e., they believe there’s only one God, and he created the heavens and the earth. This divine Godhead consists of three parts: the father (God himself), the son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit.

The essence of Christianity revolves around the life, death and Christian beliefs on the resurrection of Jesus. Christians believe God sent his son Jesus, the messiah, to save the world. They believe Jesus was crucified on a cross to offer the forgiveness of sins and was resurrected three days after his death before ascending to heaven.

COMICS BOOKS

Comics have been in existence since the end of the 19th century, but it was after the depression that the popularity of newspaper cartoons expanded into a major industry.

The precise era of the Golden Age is disputed, though most agree that it was born with the launch of Superman in 1938. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman is possibly the most recognizable comic book character to this day.

COOKING BOOKS

We all get reminded about Masala Dosa, idli, vada when we talk about Tamilnadu Cuisine, but there is a lot more than idly, vada, dosa, and sambar. The food is very and will make your taste buds go crazy. In Tamil Nadu has a lot of sub-cuisine in them like Karaikudi, Chettinad, and kongunadu.

Tamilnadu Cuisine uses a lot more of rice, lentils, vegetables, coconut and variety of spices. Let's not forget the filter Kaapi which is relished even by the foreigners all around the world. A cup of filter Kaapi can boost your energy and make you feel fresh.

DRAMA BOOKS

The enactment of drama in theatre, performed by actors on a stage before an audience, presupposes collaborative modes of production and a collective form of reception. The structure of dramatic texts, unlike other forms of literature, is directly influenced by this collaborative production and collective reception.

FICTION BOOKS

A work of fiction is created in the imagination of its author. The author invents the story and makes up the characters, the plot or storyline, the dialogue and sometimes even the setting. A fictional work does not claim to tell a true story. Instead, it immerses us in experiences that we may never have in real life, introduces us to types of people we may never otherwise meet and takes us to places we may never visit in any other way. Fiction can inspire us, intrigue us, scare us and engage us in new ideas. It can help us see ourselves and our world in new and interesting ways. What's more, it's often just plain fun!

There are three main types of fiction: the short story, the novella and the novel. Let's explore each of these.

GENERAL BOOKS

General books is text which provides the reader, or readers, with facts about a topic. This topic can range from sports to animals, from adventure to history to the weather, from wealth management to travel, and so on.

  • HISTORICAL FICTION BOOKS

Historical fiction is a type of story or literature told in a variety of media. Stories which are based on real life historical events and set in historical time and place. However, some characters may have never existed along with their actions which that are insignificant historically, but may be included to tell a better story. For example: there may not be specific record of actual dialogue, food eaten, clothes worn, routes traveled so the author will insert information that is thought to be historically accurate for the period.

Welcome to the historical time period of Tamil literature gaining popularity over 2 centuries which spans the dynamic era of historical kings, queens, princes and princesses of Tamil Nadu who ruled over a millennium ago. This page is dedicated to the top 10 historical Tamil novels written by the famous historical fiction authors.

    HISTORY BOOKS

History is the study of the human past as it is described in the written documents left by human beings. The past, with all its decisions completed, its participants dead and its history told, is what the general public perceives as the immutable bedrock on which we historians and archaeologists stand. But as purveyors of the past, we recognize that the bedrock is really quicksand, that bits of the story are yet untold, and that what has been told comes tainted by the conditions of what we are today.

In their work, historians have always recognised that primary sources, as well as containing many kinds of imperfection, also contain many types and many layers of evidence, even if they have tended not to make explicit statements about this. The crucial, though never absolutely rigid, distinction is between the "witting" testimony and the "unwitting". "Witting" means "deliberate" or " intentional"; " unwitting" means "unaware" or "unintentional". "Testimony" means "evidence".

    HORROR BOOKS

A brief look at the definition of the Horror Fiction Genre makes us realise that the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.

The Horror fiction genre requires that the reader engages in a conspiracy that agrees to suspend the rules of everyday. Readers must invest strong psychological belief in the literary worlds that are presented.

    LITERARY BOOKS

The period between the 1st century B.C. to the end of 2nd century A.D. in Southern India is known as Sangam Period. It has been named after the Sangam academies during that period.

According to the Tamil legends, there were three Sangams (Academy of Tamil poets) held in the ancient South India popularly called Muchchangam. These Sangams flourished under the royal patronage of the Pandya kings of Madurai.

    MUSIC BOOKS

Music has always been an important part of Indian life. The range of musical phenomenon in India extends from simple melodies to what is one of the most well- developed "systems" of classical music in the world. There are references to various string and wind instruments, as well as several kinds of drums and cymbals, in the Vedas. Some date the advent of the system of classical Indian music to Amir Khusro. Muslim rulers and noblemen freely extended their patronage to music. In the courts of the Mughal emperors, music is said to have flourished, and the Tansen was one of the jewels of Akbar's court.

The great poet-saints who chose to communicate in the vernacular tongues brought forth a great upheaval in north India and the Bhakti or devotional movements they led gained many adherents. The lyrics of Surdas, Tulsidas, and most particularly Kabir and Mirabai continue to be immensely popular. By the sixteenth century, the division between North Indian (Hindustani) and South Indian (Carnatic) music was also being more sharply delineated. Classical music, both Hindustani and Carnatic, may be either instrumental or vocal.

    MYSTERY BOOKS

Most who appreciate the human mind can appreciate a good mystery, and, in fact, that is how the mystery genre came about. Mystery fiction is a genre in literature that focuses on someone solving a puzzle or a crime. It is also commonly referred to as crime fiction or detective fiction for this reason.

The genre includes novels and short stories that are written for a special kind of audience, because people who read mysteries expect the standard rules for the genre:

    POETRY BOOKS

A poetry is a relatively short analysis which describes the possible meanings and relationships of the words, images, and other small units that make up a poem.

Essentially, they can make up an endless amounts of styles using endless amounts of techniques.

    PSYCHOLOGY BOOKS

Books in the psychology nonfiction genre are about the applied discipline that involves the scientific study of mental function and behaviors. The books in this genre deal with the science of understanding individuals’ mind functions in an attempt to benefit society. They attempt to tackle the understanding of the inner mind and apply treatments to improve roles of social, behavioral, and cognitive health.

Our mind is our greatest weapon, but that isn’t to say that we always know how to use it effectively. Much to the contrary: in the vast majority of cases, so much of its potential remains untapped. Or, even worse, we can turn it against ourselves, using it to our own detriment. Wouldn’t it be great if we could change this regrettable state of affairs? Well, as it happens, we can!.

    ROMANCE BOOKS

Which includes verse or prose works dedicated to idealism and associated with love and daring deeds - has been providing respite from the real world for centuries.

Romance fiction is smart, fresh and diverse. Whether you enjoy contemporary dialogue, historical settings, mystery, thrillers or any number of other themes, there's a romance novel waiting for you!.

    SCIENCE BOOKS

The word "science" probably brings to mind many different pictures: a fat textbook, white lab coats and microscopes, an astronomer peering through a telescope, a naturalist in the rainforest, Einstein's equations scribbled on a chalkboard, the launch of the space shuttle, bubbling beakers …. All of those images reflect some aspect of science, but none of them provides a full picture because science has so many facets.

In school, science may sometimes seem like a collection of isolated and static facts listed in a textbook, but that's only a small part of the story. Just as importantly, science is also a process of discovery that allows us to link isolated facts into coherent and comprehensive understandings of the natural world.

    SELF HELP BOOKS

Self-Help may be a trendy buzzword but the long overdue cultural shift to considering it necessary rather than selfish has been hugely welcome.

Though obviously no replacement for counselling and medication when mental illness is heavily impacting on your life, the best self-help books can lend a helping hand to the many of us left feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by life in our stressed-out, modern society by kindly - and often humourously - offering practical advice that encourages us to look after ourselves better.

    SHORT STORIES BOOKS

A short story is a piece of prose fiction that typically can be read in one sitting and focuses on a self-contained incident or series of linked incidents, with the intent of evoking a "single effect" or mood, however there are many exceptions to this.

    SIDDHA BOOKS

Siddha is an ancient system of medicine that originated in the south India. This system is believed to have originated several centuries ago or even since the beginning of the history of mankind. Many ingredients used for preparing Siddha Medicines are same as used in ayurveda.

Siddha is one of the oldest systems of medicine discovered in the South India as a part of the trio, the other two being the Ayurveda and Unani. It is based on the principles similar to Ayurveda. According to the ancient Siddha texts, a human body is made up of several elements. It is a microscopic component of the universe. The elements that form a human body are the earth (MUNN), fire (THEE), water (NEER), air (VAYU) and space (AKASAM). Additionally, there are three humors or the DOSHAS called the Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Siddha medicine believes that diseases occur when there is a disequilibrium or imbalance in these humors or if their individual harmony is disturbed. The balance can be restored by correcting the underlying dosha by the application of the Siddha medicine system.

    THRILLER BOOKS

Thrillers are characterized by suspense—a feeling of pleasurable fascination and excitement over what is to come next, mixed in with apprehension, anticipation, and sometimes even, fear. These feelings develop throughout a narrative from unpredictable events that make the reader or viewer think about the consequences of certain characters’ actions. The suspenseful feelings build towards a climax that is sure to be memorable.

With suspense and crime, with conspiracies and revenge, the thriller genre has been keeping audiences on their toes with tension and excitement for centuries.

    TRAVEL BOOKS

Books in the travel nonfiction genre are about places and destinations one might want to visit during their travels. The books in this genre can be about the history of places (cities, countries, and out of the way haunts), the desirable sights to see in those places, and the cultures, foods, and people of those places. They can also be about one’s travels and experiences as they travel the world, or humorous stories of family vacations.

Well-written literature transports us to and helps us experience faraway places that we've never been to but would love to visit.
